Light: the key to flowering — Bird of paradise care
Needs very bright light and, once acclimated, tolerates some direct sun. "Bright, indirect light" is not enough for blooming: it needs roughly 4–6 hours of direct sun daily. Insufficient light produces leaves but no flowers.
Why so hard to flower indoors?
It also needs to be mature (around 4–6 years), slightly root-bound, with seasonal light intensity. A non-flowering indoor plant is very common and not a sign you’ve killed it.
Split leaves are normal!
Tearing along the veins is natural (wind, movement, handling). If the leaf is still green, leave it on. Higher humidity reduces new splits.
Watering, curling and brown edges
Curling = water stress. Brown edges won’t turn green — trim for appearance but fix the cause: dry air, drought, salt buildup, heat. Watch for spider mites.
Office / living-room appeal: Tall and architectural — perfect as a landmark for receptions and lobbies. Manage client expectations: indoors it’s prized for leaf form, with flowering a bonus.
