The Fiddle-Leaf Fig needs bright, consistent light — place near an east or south-facing window. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Wipe leaves regularly to remove dust and keep them glossy. Avoid moving it frequently as it dislikes change. Rotate occasionally for even growth.
Most foliage plants can be easily propagated by stem cuttings. Choose a healthy stem and cut a 10-15 cm section just below a leaf node. Remove the lower leaves and place the cutting in moist, well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil lightly damp and place in bright, indirect light. Roots usually develop within 2-4 weeks. Some plants like Monstera and pothos can also be propagated in water — simply place the cutting with aerial roots in a jar of clean water and change the water weekly. Spring and summer are the best seasons for propagation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Water twice a week. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering — this is the most common cause of problems. In winter, extend the watering interval.

Ficus lyrata · Fiddle-Leaf Fig thrives in partial shade. Place it near a window with sheer curtains, or in an office with natural light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Ficus lyrata · Fiddle-Leaf Fig is medium — it requires a bit more attention than beginner plants. The key is mastering watering: let the soil surface dry before watering, and never leave it sitting in water. Watch for yellowing leaves, which usually signal overwatering.

During the growing season (spring and summer), feed every 2-4 weeks with a diluted liquid fertilizer. Foliage plants benefit from a balanced houseplant formula with slightly higher nitrogen. Flowering plants (such as azaleas and bougainvillea) do better with a bloom-boosting fertilizer to encourage bud formation. Fruit trees (like lemon and blueberry) prefer a specialized fruit-tree fertilizer. Reduce or pause feeding in autumn and winter when growth naturally slows down.
