Parlor Palm Care
The parlor palm (Chamaedorea elegans) is a compact, easy indoor palm — low-light-tolerant, slow-growing, and non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Light
Medium to bright indirect light; tolerates low light, even a north window; avoid direct sun.
Watering
Water when the top 1–2 inches dry; every 7–14 days spring/summer, 14–21 days autumn/winter. Overwatering is the main risk.
Humidity
Prefers 40–60%; brown tips mean low humidity or underwatering. Use a pebble tray/humidifier; misting is of limited use.
Temperature, substrate, growth
18–24°C, avoid cold drafts; light free-draining mix. Slow-growing, 1.5–2 m indoors.
Common problems
Brown tips: cold/underwater/hard water; yellowing/black stems: overwatering or direct sun.
Office appeal: Compact, elegant, low-light-tolerant and pet-safe.
