Ruffled Fan Palm

Nearly circular blades fold along radiating veins to create broad, architectural fans. The crisp geometry and slow, composed form make this an elegant tropical focal point — never a visually busy one.

Choose a warm, sheltered position in bright filtered light to partial shade, clear of air-conditioning and busy routes. Stone, pale timber and warm white reveal the radiating veins beautifully, and uncluttered space around it makes the silhouette even stronger.

Use an open mix that retains some moisture. Check the root zone as the surface begins to dry, water thoroughly and let the excess drain — avoid both bone-dry and waterlogged compost. Harsh sun, dry moving air and knocks can mark the fans permanently, so a stable position is best.

Slow-growing and naturally tidy in form, it holds its shape without frequent trimming — useful for a reception or meeting room you’d rather not keep reshaping. The fan-shaped leaves bring a tropical note without being showy, suiting a space that’s going for understated style over statement pieces.

The strongly geometric fan leaves suit a modern, minimalist home, and slow growth means it won’t outgrow its pot for years. Keep it away from direct air conditioning and dry spots — it needs enough humidity to look its best.

Reference overall height is approximately 170cm, including the nursery pot. The broad fans need generous clearance, so measure doors, lifts and the final position before delivery. Carry the plant by supporting the pot, never the foliage, to avoid creasing the fronds.

The petioles are spiny, so wear gloves and hold the pot rather than pulling on the leaf stalks. Remove only fully yellow or badly damaged fronds, and never cut into the central growing point.
