Finger Lime Tree has a fine evergreen canopy and can produce slender fruit filled with glistening, pearl-like vesicles that burst gently on the palate — the origin of its ‘citrus caviar’ nickname. Its light, upright silhouette suits a sunny balcony or bright garden perfectly.
It thrives in full sun with shelter from wind and sharp drainage, plus steady moisture while actively growing. The branches are thorny, so wear gloves when moving or pruning it. For flowering and fruiting details, see the FAQs below; ask us about the current batch before ordering if this matters to you.

Finger Lime Tree — Product Guide
Native to rainforest along Australia’s east coast, Finger Lime grows into a thorny evergreen shrub or small tree. Its slender fruit releases bright, pearl-like juice vesicles the moment it’s opened, and skin and flesh colours shift with cultivar and ripeness.
| Botanical name | Citrus australasica |
| Reference height | approx. 150–160cm overall |
| Light | Full sun |
| Water | Steady moisture during active growth |
A sunny balcony or garden sheltered from strong wind suits it best; it needs sustained direct sun and is not suited to long-term indoor placement. The fine canopy looks crisp against concrete, black or white planters — just keep the thorny branches clear of entrances and narrow walkways.
Acclimatise it gradually when moving from shade into stronger sun. In spring and summer, water thoroughly as the surface begins to dry and let the excess drain; ease off as growth slows in winter. Use a fertile, open compost, and prune lightly to remove dead, crossing or crowded shoots.
Finger limes need several hours of direct sun, so they suit a business with an open terrace, roof garden or sunny outdoor seating rather than a desk. The thorny stems and unusual fruit are a natural talking point — good for a restaurant or clubhouse wanting to make an impression outdoors. A typically dim office interior just isn’t the right long-term spot.
Suits a balcony or rooftop that gets several hours of direct sun; the caviar-like fruit inside makes a genuine talking point when entertaining. The stems carry thorns, so households with young children or pets should mind where it’s placed and keep contact to a minimum.
Reference overall height is approximately 150–160cm, including the nursery pot. Spread, branching, flowers, fruit and colour vary naturally with maturity and season. If the tree’s shape, spread or current flowers or fruit matter to you, ask us about a current-batch photo before ordering.
The branches are thorny, so wear sturdy gloves when moving, pruning or cleaning the plant, and position it clear of anywhere children and pets might brush against or chew it.

Full sun is ideal. Acclimatise it gradually when moving it from shade into intense light to reduce the risk of leaf scorch.
Keep moisture steady without waterlogging during active growth. Water thoroughly as the surface begins to dry, drain the excess and reduce the frequency in winter.
